Director of Community and Economic Development, San Bernardino, CA


Join a City on the Move. The City of San Bernardino, CA is recruiting for a highly skilled, innovative and result driven individual who can lead the Department of Community and Economic Development. The new Director will play a critical role in realizing the City's vision of being a world class "Strong and Prosperous" community. The new Director will report directly to the City Manager while maintaining close working relationships between departments and will be responsible for a highly capable staff of 30 full-time employees and a 2018/19 budget of $11.5 million. This senior-level executive should be a self-motivated, goal- and solution-oriented individual, and possess the skills and abilities to build strategic partnerships that achieve success. 

The successful candidate must have a reputation for well-grounded, ethical decision-making, superior interpersonal and communication skills, and outstanding public speaking abilities. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is a Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of progressively responsible community development and engineering services, including planning, building, economic development and housing; at least 5years of which were in a management capacity or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Salary range is $164,712-$200,208 DOQ with outstanding benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
