POSITION SUMMARY

Working as part of Mintier Harnish’s collaborative planning team, the Associate position is a mid-level planning position that provides direct planning support to senior-level planning staff, manages small- scale projects, balances project requirements and deadlines, and has regular client contact. Under general supervision, Associates perform a variety of planning tasks including research, writing reports, assisting in project management, and community engagement. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct project support to senior-level planning staff
  • Manage small-scale planning projects
  • Communicate with clients
  • Conduct research and analysis for a variety of planning projects
  • Assist in writing and preparing reports, deliverables, and proposals
  • GIS mapping and geoanalysis
  • Assist in organizing public workshops and meetings

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong research, analysis, writing, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Deep understanding of urban planning principles and California planning law
  • Intimate knowledge of local government organizations and procedures
  • Proficiency using the following software:
    • Microsoft Office
    • Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
    • GIS

EXPERIENCE

3-6 years of relevant planning experience

 

EDUCATION

  • Master’s Degree in urban planning or closely related field (accredited program desired), or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or closely related field with at least three years of relevant planning experience (accredited program desired)
