The Master of Public Administration with an Emphasis in Urban Planning
Since its inception in the early 1980s, the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at California State University, Northridge has played a key role in preparing public sector professionals for rewarding careers public service.
Now MPA students can choose to concentrate on an increasingly important issue in the 21st century – Urban Planning.
Benefits of the Urban Planning Emphasis
• Prepares students to critically analyze, create or improve, and implement effective policy in public sector programs and services;
• Emphasizes an understanding of the special challenges and opportunities of public sector administration in a diverse urban context;
• Provides knowledge needed to create effective solutions problems confronting urban societies;
• Addresses urban planning problems through public and public-private partnerships, utilizing interactions between government planning and the private sector at various levels;
• Examines the role of local community-based organizations (CBOs) in the urban planning process;
• Examines techniques of participatory decision-making in urban communities;
• Emphasizes cross-cultural urban planning values;
• Focuses on the importance of global forces in shaping local planning agendas; and
• Provides a working understanding of the concepts of sustainable development and environmental impact analysis.
